Job summary

TMS International is the leading provider of on-site, industrial steel mill services. Axis, Alabama site seeks an Assistant Maintenance Manager to lead a 220-person team and oversee day-to-day maintenance operations.

You will plan repairs, coordinate schedules, and ensure safe, reliable equipment to meet customer needs. The role demands strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic expertise, the ability to read schematics, and a track record in cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in scrap/metal or off-highway equipment experience.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic background.
• Able to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• BA/BS degree preferred; combination with experience acceptable.
• Independent and cross-functional teamwork and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Plan maintenance repairs to provide safe, reliable equipment.
• Assist in managing up to 35 maintenance staff.
• Schedule mechanics for a 24/7 operation.
• Plan and ensure compliance with Preventive Maintenance program.
• Understand and manage equipment costs within budget.
• Enforce maintenance policies and train staff.
• Coordinate Capital Improvement Projects with Maintenance Manager.
• Work within and understand the department budget.
