Job summary

TMS International, a leading steel mill service provider, is hiring a Class A Mechanic for our Tuscaloosa, AL site. You’ll maintain and repair heavy equipment, ensure safety, and minimize downtime in a demanding steel plant environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, preferably in a steel mill or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in heavy equipment.
• Certifications in welding, hydraulics, or heavy equipment maintenance are preferred.
• Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Repairs: Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, including cranes, forklifts, mobile machinery, and industrial trucks used in steel production.
• Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems: Diagnose, repair, and replace faulty hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ensuring smooth operation of equipment.
• Welding & Fabrication: Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks as required to repair or replace components of machinery and structures.
• Routine Inspections: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections on heavy equipment, including testing and adjusting mechanisms for safe and effective operations.
• Troubleshooting: Identify mechanical issues and perform diagnostic tests to ensure proper functioning of machinery.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment by ensuring that all equipment is operating correctly.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and parts inventory. Document work orders and parts used for tracking purposes.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance technicians, operators, and managers to ensure equipment is operating efficiently and production goals are met.
