Job summary

King William County Library System in Manassas, VA, is seeking an Assistant Library Director who will report to the Library Director and supervise Circulation and Technical Services. This role focuses on strong customer service, staff leadership, and operational oversight to ensure a welcoming, well-organized library experience for the community.

The successful candidate will lead program development, collect usage data, prepare reports, and assist with HR processes while maintaining adherence

Qualifications

• MLS degree required.
• 1–3 years public library experience preferred.
• Management/supervisory experience required.
• Experience tracking usage statistics, data collection and Excel reports.
• Ability to build strong staff teams and develop staff.
• Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• Superior customer service skills.
• Accommodate a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Excellent technical skills, including familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Suite, and knowledge of various technologies.

Responsibilities

• Manages Technical Services and Circulation Services teams, including hiring, training, scheduling, and development.
• Help manage library collection.
• Supervises and provides leadership for day-to-day operations.
• Develops, plans, promotes, and participates in programs and events.
• Gathers and maintains data for reports documenting activities.
• Writes and implements program grants.
• Communicates procedures to staff and public.
• Supports HR policies and processes.
