Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Akron, OH is hiring an Assistant Distribution Engineer to support project teams designing 2.4kV–34.5kV distribution systems, both overhead and underground.

You will assist through design and construction, prepare sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and perform calculations such as voltage drop and pole loading. This entry-level role emphasizes collaboration, standards, and skill development under senior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program is required.
• Or bachelor degree in Engineering or related Engineering Technology with FE exam completed or in progress.
• ABET accredited program strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of electrical distribution power flow preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist design of distribution projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects, including equipment installation and feeder design.
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading.
• Apply basic knowledge of NESC standards and utility procedures.
• Assist with field inspections for overhead and underground facilities.
• Assist with data collection for project managers and client communications.
• Support client presentations, reports, and visualizations of technical results and status.
