Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Akron, OH is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to assist licensed engineers in the design and deliverables for high-voltage substations from concept through construction. You will work with project teams to adapt engineering plans to budget constraints and client needs while ensuring quality and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desire to work in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

Assists in the design of substation projects from the conceptual phase through completion.
Assists in developing design packages including layout, protective relaying, studies, and lighting.
Assists with calculations such as insulation, voltage drop, cable sizing, and conduit fill.
Prepares design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
Applies IEEE, NESC, and other standards; conducts field inspections.
Researches and compiles project data; supports client presentations, reports, and visualizations.
Adheres to project schedules and QA/QC guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
