Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Distribution Engineer to support project teams in designing 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground distribution systems. You will work with the project team through design and construction, adapting plans to budget, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities include preparing voltage packages, BOMs, cost estimates, and delivering design sketches; performing voltage drop, cable pulling, and pole loading calculations; applying NESC standards;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• FE exam completed or in progress.
• ABET-accredited program strongly preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the country where this position is located.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of distribution projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist in the preparation and development of distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects, including equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
• Apply basic knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
• Assist with field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities.
• Assist with research and compiles project-related data as required by the project managers.
• Assist project team with communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, ROW, and outage planning.
• Assist with client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
