Base pay range
$90.00/yr - $100.00/yr
Job Summary
Responsible to plan, organize, develop, direct, and delegate (as appropriate) the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and facility policies. The objective is to ensure the highest quality of care is maintained at all times.
Qualifications
- Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois and/or Wisconsin.
- Minimum of one (1) year nursing service administration experience.
- Must possess a current CPR certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures.
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language clearly.
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Ability to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies, and the public.
- Leadership and supervisory skills, with a willingness to work harmoniously with staff.
- Personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful personality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Sufficient sight/hearing or use of prosthetics to meet job requirements.
- Ability to work independently, with flexibility, integrity, and effectiveness.
- Good health and emotional stability.
- Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile individuals.
- May need to lift, push, pull, and move equipment or supplies over 50 lbs.
- Potential exposure to infectious waste, diseases, including HIV and Hepatitis B.
Essential Functions
- Accept work assignments as directed, which may vary across different floors, customers, and tasks.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Nursing Department.
- Ensure all nursing procedures and protocols follow established policies, reviewing annually for updates.
- Supervise and instruct nursing staff to promote job knowledge.
- Identify problems and develop solutions with administrative support.
- Develop and implement a philosophy of nursing, rehab, and restorative care for residents.
- Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts.
- Audit charts and electronic health records for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure laboratory and x-ray reports are received and filed.
- Audit transfers and discharges for accuracy; participate in resident care planning.
- Attend and participate in resident and family council meetings as invited.
- Recruit, interview, and select nursing staff with approval from the Administrator.
- Schedule work hours, personnel, and assignments to meet customer needs.
- Counsel, discipline, and evaluate staff performance.
- Make daily rounds to ensure proper duties are performed and procedures followed.
- Report work-related injuries promptly.
- Participate in staff education and orientation programs.
- Manage equipment and supply orders within budget.
- Maintain a reference library of nursing materials.
- Assist with admissions and room assignments.
- Review nurses’ notes and ensure proper documentation of care.
- Monitor medication and treatment schedules.
- Ensure licensing compliance among nursing staff.
- Report changes in resident condition to families and physicians.
- Attend relevant meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
