Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking an Assistant Director of Health Information Management and Coding. The role leads the coding team, overseeing coding education, auditing, and CDI queries to ensure high-quality, compliant coding and data integrity across the Medical Center.

In collaboration with revenue cycle leadership, the Assistant Director will manage personnel, drive performance improvements, and align coding with billing and reimbursement objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, healthcare information management or related area is required or equivalent experience/training.
• Experience and proven success in healthcare revenue cycle operations and related functions including coding, registration, billing, reimbursements, aging, contractual adjustments, and charge capture.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification indicates professional credentialing in health information management/coding.

Responsibilities

• Strategically directs the Medical Center coding team and supervises coding career and contract staff.
• Oversees coding education, audits, CDI queries, and remediation of deviations to ensure compliant coding and data integrity.
• Leads revenue cycle coordination with leadership, analyzes hospital coding and payroll, and manages recruitment, performance, and training.
