Job summary

UC San Diego Health seeks an Assistant Director of Hospital Coding to lead the medical center coding team, drive strategy, quality and productivity, and supervise career and contract coders, revenue analysts, and trainers.

You will oversee education, audits, CDI queries, data integrity, and collaborate with revenue cycle leadership to optimize workflows and ensure accurate coding and reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, healthcare information management or related area and / or equivalent experience / training (must).
• A minimum of seven (7) or more years of relevant experience (must).
• A minimum of three (3) or more years of managerial (or higher) level experience (must).
• Experience and proven success in knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations, concepts, and policies and their impact throughout the organization, and with in-depth understanding of related functions and issues including coding, registration, billing, reimbursements, aging accounts, contractual adjustments, and charge capture.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification (required).

Responsibilities

• Oversee strategic direction, quality and productivity of the medical center coding team.
• Direct supervision of medical center coding career and contract coding, and oversight of revenue analysts and trainers.
• Lead coding education, auditing and remediation of deviations from compliant coding; train coding staff and educate other workforce members in coding and documentation.
• Oversee generation and approval of CDI queries to ensure timely and appropriate responses; ensure data integrity and high-quality external data releases.
• Coordinate with revenue cycle leadership; manage recruitment, performance management, training, compensation oversight and labor relations issues.
• Monitor workflows, propose improvements to processes and technology; ensure accurate timekeeping and payroll for department employees.
