Job summary

The University of California, San Francisco is seeking an experienced Health Information Management and Coding leader to oversee outpatient coding operations across multiple specialties in UCSF Health HIMS.

Reporting to the HIMS leadership, you will set strategic priorities, lead coding transformation initiatives, ensure compliance, and collaborate with clinical, legal, reimbursement, and IT teams to maximize revenue integrity and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in a health information management or coding management position.
• Coding certifications: CCS, CIC, or CCS-P.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS, billing and charge capture.
• Excellent project management, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to lead cross-departmental initiatives and drive results.

Responsibilities

• Directs outpatient coding operations across multiple specialties and leads staff.
• Sets annual strategy, priorities, education needs, and performance expectations.
• Establishes departmental goals, standards, and strategic priorities for coding services.
• Leads outpatient coding compliance program, RAC audit response and regulatory readiness.
• Sits on Coding senior leadership and participates in planning and decision-making.
• Develops and implements coding policies, procedures, and standards.
• Provides leadership for major coding transformation initiatives and workflow redesign.
• Establishes processes and metrics to maximize reimbursement; recommends actions.
• Ensures coding policies are implemented and aligned with industry trends.
• Ensures aging accounts follow up and coordinates with departments to resolve issues.
