Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking an Assistant Director of HIM (Coding) to lead inpatient and outpatient coding quality, validation, and DRG accuracy. The role focuses on physician query management, data integrity, and staff development within a large, multi-facility health system.

The position requires RHIA/RHIT credentials and a strong background in MS-DRG guidelines, ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management or related discipline is required.
• Three years of experience in medical records services; at least one year in a managerial role.
• RHIA or RHIT credential required by AHIMA.

Responsibilities

• Apply expertise in second-level reviews and coding escalation to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG assignments.
• Identify documentation gaps and engage with clinicians to improve CDI workflows.
• Oversee audit readiness, denial management, and compliance with payer requirements.
• Lead staff training and mentoring on coding standards and regulatory changes.
