Job summary

University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks an Assistant Director of Advising Operations and Training to lead training for professional and faculty advisors in the Center for Academic Advising. This role anchors onboarding, curriculum changes, and coordination with Registrar, OAPAA, and other partners.

The ADTR will guide pre-professional advising, manage caseload processes, and support student success through development of effective advising practices and programs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree and 5+ years of related university/college experience in academic advising or closely related work.
• Experience planning, executing, and leading others through complex processes with data and large student groups.
• Experience advising students from varied backgrounds in face-to-face or online environments.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills and commitment to customer service.
• Ability to use advising software and learning platforms such as Microsoft Office, Starfish, DegreePlans, Zoom.

Responsibilities

• Lead training and onboarding for all professional and faculty advisors in the Center for Academic Advising.
• Plan, develop, and implement training practices for ongoing advisor development.
• Manage unit-level caseload assignment and reassignment; coordinate with internal/external stakeholders.
• Support pre-professional advising (pre-health and pre-law) and deliver direct advising as needed.
• Collaborate with Academic Departments, Registrar, OAPAA, and other offices to support advising services.
