Job summary

University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for a Temporary Academic Advisor within the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts (CHSSA) Academic Resource Center (ARC). The role supports undergraduate students with advising activities, managing a caseload at 10–29 hours per week, and coordinating with campus partners.

The advisor assists with orientation, major declaration, and academic planning while guiding students through resources and referrals as needed,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, or closely related field with 3 years of progressive academic advising experience, or a Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, or closely related discipline.
• Experience with a range of software applications and educational technologies (Microsoft Office, LMS, and other platforms).
• Preferred: Master’s degree with 1+ year advising or related experience with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising and support to undergraduate students.
• Assist with course selections and major declarations; monitor academic performance.
• Maintain advising files and refer students to services as needed.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff; participate in orientation and events.
• Communicate effectively via phone, video, email, and in-person.
