Job summary

The Assistant Director of Advising Operations and Training at the University of North Carolina Wilmington leads training and onboarding for all professional and faculty advisors in the Center for Academic Advising. This role plans, develops, and implements advising practices and ensures timely communication of curriculum changes to staff.

It also manages caseload assignment, collaborates with the Registrar and OAPA, and provides direct advising as needed to support student success.

Qualifications

• Master's degree and 5+ years of related work experience in a university/college setting, with at least 3 years of increasing responsibility within higher education related to academic advising and/or closely aligned work.
• Experience planning, executing, and leading others through complex processes involving data and large groups of students and/or families.
• Experience with and passion for working with and advising students from varied backgrounds in face-to-face and distance education environments.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills and demonstrated commitment to customer service.

Responsibilities

• Lead training and onboarding for all professional and faculty advisors in the Center for Academic Advising.
• Manage pre-professional advising practices and complex curriculum changes impacting advisors.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including departments, registrar, and OAPAA.
• Provide direct advising services as needed to support the Center's mission.
