UMBC is seeking an Assistant Director for the George & Betsy Sherman Center in Baltimore to lead budgeting, staffing, and program-wide operations. The role reports to the Executive Director and engages with UMBC units, scholars, alumni, and external partners.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years' experience in operations, budgeting, and policy interpretation, with strong organizational and communication skills. A focus on PreK-12 and higher education success is valued.
The George & Betsy Sherman Center is committed to excellence in urban schools. Established by a visionary gift to UMBC from George and Betsy Sherman, the Center supports transformational education in four connected areas: Outstanding teaching, School Community Partnerships, Early Childhood Learning, and research. Encompassing programs include the Sherman Scholars Program, the Reach Together Tutoring Program, HIPPY, MECLP and other Sherman Center initiatives.
The Assistant Director serves as part of the Center’s strategic leadership team and advises in maximizing Center resource, budget construction, and project management for center wide initiatives. This position will oversee the Center’s support structures including 2-3 Graduate Assistants and a Specialist. Serving as the expert on UMBC Policies and procedures, this position will ensure organizational harmony and compliance across all Sherman Center programs. This dynamic position engages a wide cross section of UMBC units, Sherman constituent groups (i.e. scholars, alumni, and UMBC students), and external partners (i.e. school systems and school staff).

Salary: $74,000 - $84,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
