Job summary

The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) seeks an Assistant Controller to ensure accurate general ledger reporting, manage AP, and assist in payroll closings. You will partner with Finance to review systems, streamline processes, and document best practices.

Leadership will involve cross-functional collaboration with staff and executives. Ideal candidates bring seven+ years in financial accounting, GAAP knowledge, and strong Excel/Word/Outlook skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum seven years in financial accounting and budget experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and auditing standards.
• Experience in accounts payable, general ledger, payroll and fixed assets.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Accounts Payable operations and payroll closings.
• Prepare complex general ledger journal entries and reconcile accounts.
• Analyze monthly financial statements versus budget for leadership.
• Oversee weekly cash flow reporting and treasury coordination.
• Identify automation and process improvements with management.
• Assist audit preparation and design accounting reports for audits.
