Job summary

The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) is seeking an Assistant Controller to ensure accurate general ledger and financial reporting, manage Accounts Payable, and lead process improvements across Finance & Accounting. You will collaborate with the Controller to review systems and automate workflows, support staff training, and help prepare budget analyses for leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) required.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.
• 7+ years of financial accounting and budget experience.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Accounts Payable operations.
• Calculates, records and enters complex general ledger journal entries.
• Manage monthly general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll closings.
• Maintains the general ledger and reconciles certain general ledger accounts.
• Reviews and analyzes monthly financial statements versus budget for executives and board.
• Prepare, maintain, and analyze weekly cash flow with Finance Management.
• Review budget reporting and correspondence to division or department heads.
• Identify and prioritize automation and process improvements.
• Research resources to implement improvements with management.
• Oversee Accounts Payable to ensure timely vendor payments.
• Ensure accurate and timely Form IRS 1099 reporting.
• Prepare intercompany reporting and entries.
• Assist with annual audit preparation.
