Job summary

Ambient in Orange, CA seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to join its finance team. The role focuses on managing financial operations, ensuring GAAP compliance, and supporting the Controller to maintain the company’s financial health in a fast-paced environment.

Construction-industry experience is a strong plus. Responsibilities include financial reporting, daily accounting operations, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, and coordination with audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA license strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting standards, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and complex formulas.

Responsibilities

• Financial reporting: prepare accurate, timely statements, reports and analyses.
• Accounting operations: oversee AP/AR and general ledger maintenance.
• Budgeting and forecasting: develop budgets, monitor variances, provide forecasts.
• Compliance: ensure GAAP adherence and support audits.
• Internal controls: develop and maintain effective controls to safeguard assets.
• Reconciliations: perform monthly account reconciliations.
• Job costing: allocate costs to projects, track profitability and % complete.
• Team leadership: supervise and mentor accounting staff.
• Process improvements: identify and implement automation opportunities.
• Support Controller: provide strategic and operational support to senior management.
