RemX | The Workforce Experts is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to lead the accounting operations and strengthen internal controls in a fast-paced construction and project-based services environment.

You will partner with senior leadership on close processes, financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance across multi-state jurisdictions, while mentoring a growing accounting team and driving efficiency improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience.
  • Experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Assist in GAAP financial statements preparation.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Coordinate external audit activities.
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Support ERP optimization and system enhancements.
  • Mentor accounting team and promote accountability.
  • Ensure sales/use tax compliance across jurisdictions.

About the Opportunity

A growing organization in the construction and project-based services industry is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to help drive the accounting and financial operations of the business. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, contribute to strategic financial initiatives, and play a key role in strengthening accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with leadership experience, strong technical accounting knowledge, and a passion for building efficient processes in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate external audit activities and provide supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, streamline workflows, and increase efficiency.
  • Support ERP optimization projects and financial systems enhancements.
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with sales and use tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working within ERP/accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience with construction or project-based accounting environments is highly preferred.
