Truity Partners client in the Greater Milwaukee area is seeking an Assistant Controller with progressive accounting experience and strong leadership abilities to partner with the Controller and oversee daily accounting operations. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • CPA designation or CPA eligibility strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting department and ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Lead close processes (monthly, quarterly, annual), review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Mentor accounting staff with coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and analyses for GAAP compliance and accuracy.
  • Prepare monthly management reports, financial statements, and executive reporting packages.

Job description

Our client is an organization in the Greater Milwaukee area looking for an Assistant Controller. Our client is looking for someone with progressive accounting experience, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for driving financial accuracy and process improvements. This individual will partner closely with the Controller to oversee daily accounting operations and support the organization's continued growth.

The salary range for this position is $110k–150k.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Lead key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and financial analyses to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Support the preparation of monthly management reports, financial statements, and executive reporting packages.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Coordinate and support annual financial statement audits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic business initiatives.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial planning activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, streamline workflows, and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Support ERP implementations, system enhancements, and other finance-related projects.
  • Serve as a key resource for technical accounting matters and special projects as assigned.

The Assistant Controller will possess the following:

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Previous experience leading or mentoring accounting staff preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing month-end close processes and preparing financial statements.
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • CPA designation or CPA eligibility strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and drive continuous process improvements in a fast-paced environment.
