Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer in San Diego to support project teams across power, process, corporate, healthcare, and more. You will assist in civil design, update drawings, and participate in field inspections throughout design and construction.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree (ABET preferred), internship experience, strong communication, and proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Requires a Civil Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D and MathCAD.
• Strong attention to detail and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist in civil design from concept to design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for various facilities.
• Assist in designing civil components per project manager requirements.
• Apply basic civil engineering concepts and codes.
• Research and compile project data; help prepare studies and reports.
• Update drawings with senior engineers using CAD software.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
