Job summary

Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT, seeks an Assistant Bursar - Collections to support Perkins and Nursing Faculty loan programs, manage delinquent accounts, and coordinate with the university’s billing servicer and contracted agencies.

The role requires collaboration with Financial Aid, Student Employment, and the Banner system to ensure accurate records, timely collections, tax intercepts, and monthly reconciliations; supervision of clerical staff is also included.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in an intensive collection and/or customer service environment.
• MS Office including Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.
• Knowledge of Ellucian Banner preferred; knowledge of TouchNet U.Commerce preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a liaison with Financial Aid & Student Employment and CSCU's contracted billing servicer regarding loan repayment and debtors.
• Submits new loan information for Perkins and Nursing Faculty loans to contracted billing servicer and reconciles data monthly.
• Freezes/holds borrower records until forms are completed or accounts are current.
• Reviews delinquent accounts and manages tax intercept program.
• Coordinates with contracted billing servicer to ensure timely processing of payments, deferments, and assignments to collection agencies.
• Prepares Loan Verification Certificates and reports related to payments and adjustments.
• Monitors enrollment status and notifies relevant departments of separations or changes.
• Manages the process for transferring seriously delinquent accounts to the Department of Education if needed.
• Updates borrower contact details with contracted agencies and Banner system.
• Assists Bursar with 1098T and other cashiering operations.
