Job summary

Town of Addison seeks an experienced Building Inspector/Official to perform plan reviews for permits and conduct on-site inspections of commercial and residential projects to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire codes. The role also involves supervising Senior Building Inspectors and stepping in for the Building Official when needed.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of inspection experience, with preferred ICC

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building codes.
• Knowledge of applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
• Skill in interpreting and explaining construction related codes, standards, regulations, and ordinances and the need for compliance.
• Skill in reading and interpreting construction related blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
• Skill in completing mathematical calculations.
• Skill in enforcing building codes tactfully and professionally.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assists with administration of permitting and inspections software.
• Provide technical assistance regarding rental and lodging inspection programs.
• Inspect commercial and residential construction to ensure code compliance.
• Review plans and permits for code conformity.
• Communicate codes and regulations to residents, contractors, and property owners.
• Supervise senior building inspectors and assume Building Official duties in absence.
