Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to support the Store Manager in staffing, inventory, merchandising, and store operations. This temporary role develops external candidates for the Store Manager position and remains in scope for a limited period.

You will assist in recruiting, supervise staff, manage inventories and daily store processes while upholding company standards and driving a safe, profitable store environment.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules and procedures.
• Ability to perform basic math and percentage calculations.
• Knowledge of cash handling and deposit controls.
• Ability to use IBM cash registers and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Familiar with cash, safety, and key control policies.
• Experience with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring processes and legal compliance.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems in varied situations.
• Preference for bilingual Spanish speakers in some locations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising and staging, stocking and pricing per manager direction.
• Assist in all inventory management aspects, including damages and markdowns; prepare inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Model company procedures and policies per handbook and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds in the designated bank.
• Support cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment for customers and employees.
• Operate store in manager’s absence.
• Review operating statements for trends and opportunities and identify improvement opportunities.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation on time.
