Job summary

Cal Poly Humboldt is seeking an American Sign Language Interpreter to provide sign language interpreting services for Deaf or Hard‑of‑Hearing students, primarily in classroom and instructional settings. The position includes Interpreter I and II levels with responsibilities that require adaptability to technical vocabulary and fast‑paced environments.

Final salary placement is commensurate with experience, and this is a temporary, hourly, non‑benefitted assignment within the Campus Disability

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret between ASL and English in classroom settings.
• Certification or demonstrated experience in sign language interpretation.
• Experience serving Deaf or Hard‑of‑Hearing students.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate communication between Deaf, Hard‑of‑Hearing, Deaf‑Blind, and hearing consumers.
• Interpret spoken English into sign language (or other manual communication systems) and vice versa.
• Ensure accurate, complete, and culturally appropriate transmission of information.
• Adapt interpreting approach to meet consumer language preferences and communication needs.
