Job summary

Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is seeking an interpreter to provide sign language interpretation for campus events, instructional classes, and related settings. The role emphasizes accuracy and adherence to professional standards.

Under supervision, the interpreter will determine the most effective methods for delivery and work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, faculty, and staff to ensure accessible learning environments.

Qualifications

• Ability to hear spoken English and use ASL or other signing systems.
• Ability to interpret and transliterate between ASL and spoken English at required speeds.
• Knowledge of RID code of professional conduct.
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships with students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, accurate interpreting services for campus events and classes.
• Make independent decisions on the best interpretation methods for each assignment.
• Collaborate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and campus partners.
