GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store, as well as the general operations and supervision of the store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They are responsible for opening and closing the store, supervising associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy-to-shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times. Area Supervisors also execute and supervise company operational processes as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments:
- Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.
- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone; immediately correct or report unsafe conditions or practices to store leadership.
- Responsible for building security including entrance/exit control, daily function checks of Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) devices, cash office security, armored carrier pickups, and register area security.
- Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
- Responsible for customer safety, including accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service:
- Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand:
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance according to company dress code and ensure all associates do the same.
- Keep all store areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising:
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed per company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and follow-up.
- Receive merchandise trucks when needed.
- Process all merchandise with urgency.
- Handle receipt of all non-merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor.
- Secure and process back-stock according to company policy.
- Merchandise department including back stock, reduce loss due to damage, and ensure compliance with presentation guidelines.
- Manage floor moves, signage, and re-wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention:
- Understand and comply with loss prevention programs; maintain a large customer service presence to deter theft.
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty; safeguard confidential information and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor system and conduct package inspections.
- Execute company best practices to maximize productivity and minimize steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations:
- Ensure front-end associates execute company standards efficiently.
- Manage line pace, train associates on register procedures, and control break schedules.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, ensure merchandise salability, and teach best practices like "Scan and Bag".
Fitting Rooms:
- Maintain cleanliness of fitting rooms.
- Audit and account for all garments and ensure return compliance.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager:
- Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted properly.
- Manage front-end control procedures and payroll administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the store manager.
COMPETENCIES:
- Manage work processes, business acumen, planning, talent building, collaboration, leadership by example, effective communication, accountability, and execution.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Excellent verbal communication skills, fluency in English.
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- Basic math skills, ability to work evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
- Ability to use store equipment, stand/walk for up to 100%, and lift over 25 lbs as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Retail associates and stockroom leads (where applicable).
