GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Area Supervisor is part of the Store Leadership team, responsible for a specific area of the store, general operations, and supervision when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They oversee opening and closing the store, supervising associates, ensuring a friendly shopping environment, proper merchandise presentation, and maintaining cleanliness. They also execute and supervise operational processes as needed.
Essential Functions:
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
- Prioritize safety and practice safe behaviors at all times.
- Maintain awareness on the sales floor to ensure a safe shopping environment; report unsafe conditions.
- Ensure security of the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS devices, cash office, and secure handling of deliveries.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Manage customer safety, accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems and respond to after-hours alarms as needed.
Customer Service
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize associates through company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance and ensure associates adhere to dress code.
- Keep store areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Manage daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed per standards.
- Receive merchandise trucks and process all merchandise promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.
- Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor.
- Secure and process back-stock according to policy.
- Merchandise the department including back stock, and reduce loss due to damage.
- Ensure compliance with presentation guidelines and manage floor moves/signage.
Loss Prevention
- Follow Loss Prevention programs, maintain a large customer service presence, and engage customers and associates to prevent loss.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
- Maintain PVM system and conduct package inspections.
- Implement company best practices to maximize productivity.
Front End Supervision and Operations
- Ensure front-end standards are met, manage line pace, and expedite customers.
- Train and coach associates on cash register procedures and policies.
- Control break schedules, ensure equipment functionality, and maintain supplies.
- Manage go-backs, security tagging, and signage.
Fitting Rooms
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of fitting rooms.
- Audit and account for garments, ensure go-back compliance, and security tagging.
Administrative Duties
- Conduct cash pulls, bank deposits, and control store operations as needed.
- Manage payroll, scheduling, and other administrative tasks assigned by the store manager.
Competencies
- Manage work processes, demonstrate business acumen, plan and prioritize.
- Build talent, collaborate, lead by example, communicate effectively, ensure accountability and execution.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with POS equipment and basic math skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements & ADA
Ability to use store equipment, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop. Ability to lift over 25 lbs occasionally. Specific requirements for stockroom shifts are included.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise retail associates and stockroom leads where applicable.
