GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Area Supervisor is a key member of Store Leadership, responsible for a specific area of the store, as well as overall store operations when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They oversee opening and closing the store, supervise associates, and maintain a friendly, easy-to-shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times. They also execute and supervise company operational processes as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments:
- Understand safety as the top priority and practice safe behaviors.
- Maintain awareness on the sales floor to ensure a safe shopping environment; report unsafe conditions.
- Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, and handling armored carrier pickups.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Prioritize customer safety, including accident prevention and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms.
Customer Service:
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize associates through company programs.
Personal and Store Brand:
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance per dress code and ensure all associates do the same.
- Keep all areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Handle daily trash removal.
General Merchandising:
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards.
- Receive merchandise trucks as needed.
- Process merchandise efficiently.
- Manage inbound deliveries and organize stockrooms.
- Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor.
- Secure and process back-stock according to policy.
- Merchandise the department, including back stock, and reduce damage loss.
- Follow presentation guidelines and manage floor moves and signage.
- Handle re-wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention:
- Follow Loss Prevention programs, maintain a customer service presence, and engage with customers and associates.
- Demonstrate integrity and safeguard confidential information.
- Maintain PVM system and conduct package inspections.
- Implement company best practices to maximize productivity and minimize theft.
Front End Supervision and Operations:
- Ensure front-end standards and productivity.
- Manage line pacing and expedite customers.
- Train and coach associates on registers and policies.
- Control break schedules and ensure equipment functionality.
- Maintain supplies and recovery for the front end.
- Ensure proper handling of merchandise, security tagging, and signage.
Fitting Rooms:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of fitting rooms.
- Audit garment tags and ensure return compliance.
Administrative Duties:
- Handle cash pulls, bank deposits, and store controls.
- Manage payroll, scheduling, and other assigned duties.
COMPETENCIES:
- Manage work processes, business acumen, planning, talent building, collaboration, leadership, communication, accountability, and execution.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Excellent verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- Basic math skills.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
- Ability to use store equipment and spend up to 100% of time standing, walking, and moving.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and lift over 25 lbs.
- Additional qualifications for stockroom shifts.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Retail Associates and Stockroom Leads (if applicable).
