Penn State Extension is hiring an AREA MASTER GARDENER COORDINATOR - AREA C (south-central Pennsylvania). This role involves working with Penn State Extension's Master Gardener Programs across Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, and York counties, with statewide responsibilities.
The individual will provide leadership and coordination for the Master Gardener Program through collaboration with the State Master Gardener Coordinator, County Master Gardener Coordinators, volunteers, Extension Educators, faculty, and administrators. Responsibilities include supervising county coordinators, facilitating training, maintaining communication systems, and developing funding sources including grants and program revenue.
This position offers hybrid work arrangements; the base office must be located within the service area.
Supervise and evaluate County Master Gardener Coordinators to ensure adherence to program policies and standards.
Plan and facilitate statewide initiatives such as volunteer training, conferences, and outreach activities.
Collaborate with the Leadership Team to set strategic directions.
Coordinate annual remote training for new volunteers and local training efforts.
Lead media outreach efforts across various platforms.
Participate in program evaluation and impact reporting.
Develop revenue streams through educational products, fundraisers, sponsorships, and grants.
Lead recruitment, selection, and orientation of County Coordinators, and work with leadership to set performance standards.

A master's degree and at least eight years of relevant experience in horticulture or related fields, including 3+ years of supervisory experience. Experience in volunteer management, community partnerships, and leadership development is required. Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills are essential. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are mandatory. Preference given to candidates with horticulture background, experience in adult education, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases.
This role requires regular travel within the geographic area and operating a motor vehicle, with background checks including driving record verification.
