Penn State Extension is hiring an AREA MASTER GARDENER COORDINATOR - AREA C (south-central Pennsylvania). This individual will work with Penn State Extension's Master Gardener Programs across Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, and York counties, with statewide responsibilities.
The role involves providing regional leadership and coordination for the Master Gardener Program, collaborating with the State Master Gardener Coordinator, County Master Gardener Coordinators, MG volunteers, Extension Educators, faculty, and administrators. Responsibilities include supervising county coordinators, growing the program through training and communication, and developing funding strategies.
Hybrid work arrangements are available; the base office must be within the geographic area served.
Supervise and evaluate County Master Gardener Coordinators to ensure adherence to program policies and standards.
Assist in planning statewide initiatives such as volunteer training, conferences, and opportunities.
Collaborate with the Leadership Team to set strategic directions.
Coordinate annual remote basic training for new volunteers via Zoom, ensuring quality and consistency.
Implement annual basic training locally with county coordinators.
Coordinate media outreach efforts, including websites, TV, print, and social media.
Contribute to program evaluation and impact reporting.
Develop revenue streams through educational products, programs, fundraisers, sponsorships, and grants.
Participate in hiring, orienting, and setting performance standards for staff.

Minimum of a master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or related fields, including 3+ years supervisory experience. Experience in volunteer management, leadership development, and community partnerships is essential. Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills are required, along with a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
Regular travel within the geographic area is expected. Successful completion of background checks, including motor vehicle records, is required.
