Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to lead and motivate participants in swimming lessons, maintaining a safe and positive environment in line with YMCA policies. The role emphasizes youth development, healthy living and member engagement.

The position requires teaching skills, proper certification maintenance, and effective communication with participants and parents. Training and staff meetings are expected as part of ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Current/or must obtain ASHI certifications for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Information Security and Awareness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, and New Staff Orientation Assessment.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Knows and understands all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately.
• Maintains all required certifications.
• Conducts swim lessons, as assigned, in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Develops swimming and water safety skills using instructional patterns and teaching techniques.
• Provides feedback to students and encourages progress.
• Interacts with parents, offering orientation and constructive feedback.
• Maintains attendance and progress records as required.
• Performs daily equipment checks and prepares equipment prior to class.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• May conduct private swim lessons or related aquatics programs as needed.
• Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
