Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston seeks a dedicated Lifeguard to maintain safe swim environments at our facilities in Houston. You will monitor pool areas, enforce rules, and support member safety and youth development.

You'll perform testing of chemicals, inspect equipment, respond to emergencies, and participate in trainings to uphold state health standards and YMCA procedures.

This role requires strong swimming skills, the ability to work hours as needed, and a commitment to friendly, firm guidance.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, or obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
• Knowledge of pool safety and emergency procedures.
• Commitment to maintaining safety standards and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe swimming conditions and enforce pool rules.
• Respond to emergencies immediately according to YMCA standards.
• Conduct pool chemical testing and maintain records.
• Perform daily equipment checks and ensure supplies are available.
• Provide vigilant surveillance and perform rescues when needed.
• Attend staff trainings and complete required in-service hours.
• Communicate policies firmly but kindly to members.
