Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to supervise pool areas, ensure safety, and support youth development during shifts. You will enforce rules, perform daily pool maintenance, and monitor chemical levels while engaging with members in a firm, fair, and friendly manner.

The role requires Lifeguard certification with YMCA/Red Cross credentials, BLS/First Aid, and Lifeguard Supervisor certification prior to the first shift. Flexible hours include days, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years.
• Minimum of one year Lifeguard experience.
• Demonstrate Lifeguard skills per YMCA policies.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Must obtain BLS/First Aid/Emergency Oxygen certifications before first shift.
• Lifeguard Supervisor certification before first shift.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Know and follow emergency procedures and respond immediately.
• Enforce safety rules and swim testing procedures.
• Maintain pool and area cleanliness and perform maintenance tasks.
• Test and record pool chemical levels accurately.
• Conduct equipment checks and ensure availability of required gear.
• Monitor for hazards and mitigate risks proactively.
• Maintain certifications and attend required trainings.
• Lead and guide other lifeguards on duty.
• Provide member engagement and safety-focused service.
