Job summary

Old Colony YMCA in Middleborough, MA seeks an Assistant Aquatics Director to organize and staff swim programs, supervise instructors, and ensure safety and quality across all aquatic activities. Under the Aquatics Director, you will oversee class development, staff training, and program scheduling.

This role requires leadership, effective communication, and hands-on oversight of lifeguards, with budgeting oversight and ongoing program evaluations to meet YMCA standards and goals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (associates degree preferred)
• Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
• Maintain certification in Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
• Lifeguard Licensed by Jeff Elis and Associates
• Water Safety Instructor certified by the American Red Cross
• Must WSI and LGI training at first viable opportunity to do so
• Must be physically able to teach aquatic lessons & lift an adult male from the pool to the pool deck

Responsibilities

• Teach swim classes and lifeguard as needed
• Interview, train, supervise, discipline and evaluate all swim instructors
• Ensure staff informs class and pool procedures and enforces posted rules
• Supervise aquatic events and encourage staff and members to participate
• Review time cards to ensure accuracy
• Schedule pool offerings and manage volume control
• Oversee student evaluations for swimming levels
• Monitor registrations and staff-to-student ratios
• Log class and program data and communicate with Program Director
• Assist with opening/maintaining outdoor pool during season
• Coordinate camp swim lessons and open swim with Directors
• Implement at least two new programs annually

Education
