Job summary

Seattle YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Lead to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our aquatic programs. You will supervise lifeguards and swim instructors, bridge lifeguarding duties with supervisory responsibilities, and serve as a primary deck presence to uphold safety and quality of service.

The role requires 2+ years in lifeguarding or swim instruction with leadership capability; current certifications in lifeguarding, swim instruction, CPR/AED, and First Aid are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of lifeguarding and/or swim instruction with demonstrated leadership.
• Current lifeguard and swim instructor certifications (Red Cross or YMCA).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Current Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
• Ability to obtain YSLI-T and/or LGI within the first 90 days.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with participants of all ages.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
• Commitment to YMCA mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and feedback to lifeguards and instructors; model safety and customer service.
• Assist in training and development; teach Lifeguard and Swim Lesson classes.
• Maintain deck presence; oversee operations and enforce safety.
• Respond to aquatic emergencies; coordinate with emergency services.
• Deliver friendly, professional member service.
• Assist admin tasks: scheduling, staff feedback, program planning.
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards; document incidents per policy.
