Job summary

YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking an Aquatics Lead to ensure the safety and effectiveness of aquatic programs while supporting swim instructors and lifeguards on the deck.

The role balances lifeguard duties with supervisory responsibilities, requiring strong leadership, classroom and on-deck teaching capabilities, and a commitment to exceptional customer service for members and guests.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in lifeguarding and/or swim instruction, with demonstrated leadership abilities.
• Current lifeguard and swim instructor certification from a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross, YMCA).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and feedback to a team of lifeguards and swim instructors, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.
• Assist in the training and development of lifeguards and swim instructors, ensuring staff are proficient and prepared for emergencies.
• Act as the primary point of contact on the deck, oversee operations and enforce safety protocols.
• Be prepared to respond swiftly to aquatic emergencies and coordinate with emergency services when needed.
• Interact with members and guests in a friendly, professional manner to support a welcoming environment.
• Assist in administrative tasks such as emergency scheduling support and program planning feedback.
• Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards and maintain incident reports as required.
