Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking a dynamic leader to develop and lead our Aquatics team and programs on-site. You will oversee operations, safety, and growth of aquatics offerings, ensuring exceptional member experiences.

This temporary role focuses on program development, staff leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality aquatics services to the community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or related field or equivalent education/experience.
  • 4+ years of related experience including staff and volunteer supervision, program development, budget management, and fund raising.
  • Ability/train Aquatic employees.
  • Current lifeguard and swim instructor certification from a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross, YMCA).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification.
  • Ability to obtain YSLI-T, LGI, and CAP Trainer Certification within first 90 days.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and web apps.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages development, operations, and growth of the Aquatics Department to meet community needs.
  • Establishes innovative aquatics programming and expands programs at branch and community level.
  • Manages aquatics budget and monitors revenue and expenses.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, mentors, evaluates, and supervises staff and volunteers; partners with HR on recruiting strategy.
  • Ensures safety procedures are followed and programs comply with YMCA standards and laws.
  • Collects program statistics and provides data/reports; monitors quality via evaluations and training.
  • Conducts lifeguard and swim instructor trainings and staff in-services.
  • Creates staff/pool scheduling templates to optimize staffing ratios.
  • Leads branch management team and supports fundraising and volunteer programs.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to promote aquatics programming.
