Job summary

YMCA of Columbia-Willamette in Sherwood, Oregon is seeking an Aquatic Coordinator to lead lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatics staff during program hours, evenings, and weekends.

You will hire, train, supervise, and coordinate in-service trainings, maintain records, assist with pump/chemical room duties, and help manage the aquatics budget under the director. This role emphasizes safety, leadership, and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Have at least 2 years of aquatic leadership experience.
• Be available during program hours (including evenings/weekends).
• Possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current CPR/AED & First Aid Certification.
• Possess (or obtain within 30 days) YMCA Leader Certification.
• Possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification (preferred).
• Possess a current CPO or AFO certification (preferred).
• Possess a current YMCA Team-Leader Certification (preferred).
• Be able to pass a written/physical assessment prior to duty.
• Have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly.

Responsibilities

• Hiring, training, and supervising Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and other aquatics staff and volunteers.
• Leading in-service trainings and drills to keep skills current.
• Maintaining records of pool usage, chemical readings, and staff certifications.
• Assisting with pump/chemical room maintenance duties.
• Developing and managing the aquatics department budget under the Aquatics Director.
• Organizing and implementing special aquatics events on- and off-site.
• Being a positive role model for youth in the community.
• Upholding YMCA Policies and Standards.
