Job summary

Genentech in South San Francisco, CA seeks a Principal Data Scientist for RDT Applied AI to bridge advanced ML with business strategy in a regulated pharma setting. You will serve as an embedded consultant to Pharma Commercial and Product R&D teams, guiding AI roadmaps and architecture at scale.

Lead the engineering of AI platforms, mentor data scientists, ensure GxP compliance, and translate complex models for senior leaders.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD with concentration in data science, biostatistics, or related field.
• 7+ years of data science experience working with AI/ML in healthcare or pharma environments.
• Experience advising senior leadership and shaping strategic decisions.
• Strong understanding of governance, compliance (GxP) and data privacy in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Strategic internal consulting to Pharma Commercial and Product R&D teams on AI initiatives.
• Promote Roche AI platform capabilities and influence platform roadmap.
• Ensure AI architectures comply with healthcare regulations (GxP).
• Manage stakeholder relationships with senior leadership and translate complex AI concepts for non-technical partners.
• Oversee architectural and strategic direction of multiple end-to-end data science projects.
• Lead the AI vision and best practices across the organization.
• Develop bespoke analytical strategies for complex problems and ensure production robustness.
• Advise on data-driven solutions and platform adoption in a collaborative setting.
