Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer for the San Francisco or New York offices. You will guide top startup customers from ideation to scale, delivering high-fidelity feedback and prototypes on our API platform.

The role blends technical depth with business impact and collaboration across Sales, Solutions Engineering, and Product teams. You'll work in a hybrid model (3 days in the office) with relocation assistance for new hires, collaborating with a broad internal team to accelerate customer

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, ML engineer or equivalent.
• Experience guiding startups or customers in ideation to scale.
• Proven ability to deliver prototypes on API platforms.

Responsibilities

• Partner with strategic startup customers as a technical thought partner to build novel applications on our API.
• Provide proactive guidance to maximize business impact and accelerate application development.
• Experiment and prototype alongside customers to demonstrate practical use cases.
• Contribute to open-source resources and share knowledge to scale the function.
• Synthesize and deliver valuable feedback to Product and Research teams.
• Build relationships within the startup ecosystem as a technical partner to customers.
