Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to deploy frontier AI capabilities for developers and enterprises. You will work with API customers, guiding architecture from prototyping to production while balancing performance, safety, and cost.

This role is based in our SF or Seattle offices with a hybrid model (3 days per week in the office) and relocation assistance. You will embed with customers to drive adoption, scale production systems, and influence product direction through measurable impact.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on technical experience.
• Proficient in Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience leading production AI/ML deployments.

Responsibilities

• Embed with customers as a technical thought partner to ideate and build applications on our API.
• Lead architecture decisions, prototyping, evaluation, and production launches.
• Provide guidance on model behavior, reliability, latency, cost, safety, and security.
• Collaborate with product and research teams to validate frontier AI capabilities.
• Scale the Applied AI Engineer function via knowledge sharing.
• Work on-site with customer teams, including occasional travel.
