Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work adheres to scope of practice and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, skill mix, and develops responsive staffing systems. Mentors, coaches, and manages APP administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, orientation, performance evaluations, OPPE/FPPE, etc. Represents APPs in external reviews like Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

Position typically involves 50% administrative and 50% clinical duties, or as determined by the APP Director or VP of APP Services.

Note: This is a 40-hour position that may include off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. It provides leadership within the designated specialty service(s) with potential for role expansion based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate with leadership to identify clinical growth and process improvements. Participate in meetings and committees.
  2. Evaluate APP workforce needs, approve staffing requests, and work with leadership on recruitment and retention.
  3. Ensure financial integrity by reviewing billing, reimbursement, productivity, and utilization metrics.
  4. Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses within the department.
  5. Develop peer review and quality metrics, assist with chart reviews, and collaborate on FPPE development.
  6. Manage change within the service line, facilitate communication, and oversee clinical training and orientation.
  7. Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed. Collect feedback from interdisciplinary teams.
  8. Oversee scheduling and coordinate with APP Supervisors on staffing adjustments.
  9. Work clinically for 50% of the time in your area of expertise or as assigned.
Supervision
  • The APP Manager reports to the APP Director and physician leader for administrative duties. Collaborates with physicians during clinical duties.
Supervised Staff
  • Administrative supervision over APPs in assigned areas.
Candidate Requirements
Physician Assistant:
  • License, certification, DEA registration, BLS, and 5+ years clinical plus 2+ years leadership experience in relevant specialty.
Nurse Practitioner:
  • Licensure, certification, DEA registration, BLS, and 5+ years clinical plus 2+ years leadership experience in relevant specialty.
