Qualifications

  • 5+ years clinical experience and 2+ years leadership in Michigan required.
  • Must hold relevant licenses and certifications including DEA and BLS.

Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work aligns with scope of practice and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, mentors APPs, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, evaluations, and compliance with review standards. Represents APPs in external reviews (e.g., Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons).

The position is typically split 50% administrative and 50% clinical, aligned with the APP Director or VP of APP Services directives.

This is a 40-hour/week role, may include off-shift hours, weekends, and holidays, with leadership responsibilities within the specialty service(s) and potential for expansion.

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate with leadership to identify growth opportunities and participate in meetings.
  2. Evaluate APP workforce needs and coordinate staffing requests.
  3. Assist with recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts.
  4. Monitor financial metrics such as reimbursement, productivity, and utilization.
  5. Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses.
  6. Develop peer review and quality metrics; assist with chart reviews.
  7. Develop FPPE in collaboration with physician leadership.
  8. Manage service line changes and APP education programs.
  9. Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  10. Oversee scheduling and manage unexpected staffing changes.
  11. Clinically work 50% in area of expertise, as directed.
Supervision
  • Dual reporting to APP Director and physician leader for administrative matters.
Supervision Exercised
  • Administrative supervision over APPs in assigned areas.
Candidate Requirements
Physician Assistant:
  • License, certification, DEA, BLS, 5+ years clinical, 2+ years leadership in Michigan.
Nurse Practitioner:
  • License, certification, DEA, BLS, 5+ years clinical, 2+ years leadership in Michigan.
