Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work aligns with scope and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, mentors APPs, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and compliance with review standards. Represents APPs in external reviews like the Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically 50% administrative and 50% clinical within the area of expertise, as directed by the APP Director or VP of APP Services.

Note: This is a 40-hour position that may include off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. It provides leadership within the specialty service(s) with potential expansion based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate on clinical growth and process improvements; participate in leadership meetings
  • Evaluate APP workforce needs and approve staffing requests
  • Support APP recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts
  • Monitor financial metrics like reimbursement, productivity, and utilization
  • Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses
  • Develop peer review and quality metrics; assist with chart reviews
  • Develop FPPE in collaboration with physician leadership
  • Manage change within the service line; oversee APP education and billing processes
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed
  • Manage scheduling and coordinate with APP Supervisors
  • Clinically work 50% in the designated area of expertise

Supervision

  • Dual reporting to the relevant APP Director and physician leader; collaborates on clinical duties

Supervision Exercised

  • Administrative supervision over APPs in assigned areas

Candidate Requirements

Physician Assistant: Current MI license, ARC-PA accredited program completion, NCCPA certification, MI Controlled Substance License, DEA registration, BLS, 5 years clinical, 2 years leadership experience.

Nurse Practitioner: Current MI licensure, accredited NP program, DEA registration, BLS, 5 years clinical, 2 years leadership experience.
