Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Oversees APP clinical work at the top of scope or adherence to the Hospital Playbook. Assesses staffing effectiveness, skill mix, and develops staffing systems responsive to patient volume and acuity. Mentors, coaches, and manages administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, orientation, performance evaluations, OPPE/FPPE, etc. Represents APPs to review services like the Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically 50% administrative and 50% clinical, or as determined by the APP Director or VP of APP Services.

Note: This is a 40-hour position that may include off shifts, weekends, and holidays. Provides leadership within the specialty service(s) with potential for expansion based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate with leadership to identify clinical growth and process improvements.
  2. Evaluate APP workforce needs and approve staffing requests.
  3. Work with APP Director on recruitment, retention, and recognition.
  4. Ensure financial integrity by reviewing billing, reimbursement, productivity, and utilization metrics.
  5. Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses.
  6. Develop peer review and quality metrics; assist with chart reviews.
  7. Develop FPPE in collaboration with physician leadership.
  8. Manage change within the service line, including education and billing training.
  9. Manage APP performance, conduct evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
  10. Oversee scheduling and coordinate with APP Supervisors.
  11. Clinically work 50% in area of expertise or as directed.
Supervision

The APP Manager reports to the APP Director and physician leader, collaborating on clinical duties. Exercises administrative supervision over APPs.

Candidate Requirements
Physician Assistant
  • License, certification, DEA, BLS, and experience requirements as specified.
Nurse Practitioner
  • License, certification, DEA, BLS, and experience requirements as specified.
