Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work adheres to scope and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, mentors staff, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and compliance with OPPE/FPPE. Represents APPs to external review agencies such as the Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically split 50% administrative and 50% clinical, aligned with expertise or as directed by leadership.

Note: This is a 40-hour role that may include off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. The role provides leadership within specific specialties with potential for expansion based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate on clinical growth and process improvements with leadership.
  • Evaluate and adjust APP staffing based on clinical needs.
  • Participate in recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts.
  • Monitor financial metrics like reimbursement and productivity.
  • Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses.
  • Develop peer review and quality metrics, assist with chart reviews.
  • Develop FPPE in collaboration with physicians.
  • Manage change within service lines and oversee clinical training and education.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage APP performance and schedules.
  • Work clinically 50% in area of expertise or as assigned.

Supervision Received

  • Dual reporting to APP Director and physician leader; collaborates with physicians during clinical duties.

Supervision Exercised

  • Provides administrative supervision over APPs within the assigned area.

Qualifications

Physician Assistant Candidate:

  • Current Michigan license, ARC-PA accredited program completion, NCCPA certification, Controlled Substance License, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical and 2+ years leadership experience.

Nurse Practitioner Candidate:

  • Current Michigan licensure, graduate of accredited program, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical and 2+ years leadership experience.
