Accounts Payable SpecialistEmployment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $60,000 to $75,000
The Opportunity
Pathway Talent Partners is partnering with an established and growing construction and specialty contracting organization in the Twin Cities to identify an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced AP environment and wants exposure beyond simply processing invoices. The role will work closely with purchasing, project teams, vendors, and accounting leadership while supporting job costing, sales and use tax, credit card reconciliation, payment processing, and month-end close.
We're looking for someone who's detail-oriented, comfortable managing a high volume of activity, and willing to dig into discrepancies rather than simply push transactions through the system.
What You'll Do
- Process and code a high volume of vendor invoices, typically 100 to 200 per day, with an emphasis on accuracy and proper job cost allocation
- Review invoices against purchase orders, receiving documentation, and other supporting information
- Partner with purchasing, project managers, field teams, and accounting to resolve invoice and coding discrepancies
- Apply appropriate sales and use tax treatment across multiple jurisdictions
- Review vendor statements, research outstanding items, and respond to vendor questions
- Prepare check runs and support the timely distribution of vendor payments
- Assist accounting leadership with cash flow coordination related to upcoming payments
- Manage daily banking exception reporting as needed
- Reconcile company credit card activity and ensure transactions have appropriate coding and documentation
- Maintain accurate and organized AP records to support audits and internal reviews
- Assist with month-end and year-end close, including AP accruals and 1099 reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve AP processes, workflows, and overall efficiency
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of accounts payable experience, ideally within construction, specialty contracting, manufacturing, or another high-volume environment
- Experience processing a significant volume of invoices while maintaining accuracy
- Familiarity with job costing and project-based accounting strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of sales and use tax, including determining appropriate tax treatment for vendor invoices
- Experience working within an ERP or accounting system such as Vista by Viewpoint, Spectrum, COINS, or a comparable platform
- Exposure to AP automation, electronic workflow, OCR, or document management systems is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
- Comfortable working across departments and communicating with both internal teams and external vendors
- Organized, dependable, and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Someone who takes ownership of their work and looks for opportunities to make processes better
