Job summary

San Diego Humane Society seeks a Full-Time Administrative Animal Protection Officer to support our Humane Law Enforcement team from the San Diego Campus. This role blends office administration with field readiness, handling investigations support, case documentation, and liaison work with community partners.

You’ll work a 5/8 schedule with competitive hourly pay. A high school diploma, 1 year of relevant experience or 6 months as an Animal Control Officer, plus a valid CA driver’s license, are

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year paid, full-time experience in animal control, humane society, veterinary or kennel setting OR 6 months as an Animal Control Officer.
• Valid CA driver’s license and approval to drive for work purposes.
• Experience in an administrative capacity using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bilingual skills encouraged (Spanish preferred).
• Candidates must pass a background check, medical exam, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Review and follow up on complaints related to animal neglect, cruelty, nuisance, bite incidents, dangerous dogs, kennel inspections, and general welfare.
• Conduct initial outreach to complainants, victims, and owners to gather information and explain processes.
• Manage administrative case follow-up, including correspondence, compliance tracking, and coordination with field officers.
• Process and track rabies control cases, bite reports, and quarantine requirements.
• Coordinate kennel inspections and maintain compliance documentation.
• Provide accurate case information to internal staff, field officers, and partner departments.
