Job summary

San Diego Humane Society is hiring for a Full-Time Administrative Animal Protection Officer to support the Humane Law Enforcement Team. This office-based role screens complaints, gathers information, maintains records, and coordinates with field officers and partner agencies while being prepared to assist in field operations as needed.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 1 year of related animal experience or 6 months as an Animal Control Officer, and MS Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent.
• 1 year of paid, full-time experience in an animal control agency, humane society, veterinary or kennel facility, ranch or zoo; OR 6 months of experience as an Animal Control Officer.
• Must have a valid CA driver’s license.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
• Bilingual skills are a plus, Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and follow up on complaints related to animal neglect, cruelty, nuisance, bite incidents, dangerous or vicious dogs, kennel inspections, and general welfare.
• Conduct initial outreach to complainants, victims, and owners to gather information and explain next steps.
• Manage administrative case follow-up, correspondence, compliance tracking, and coordination with field officers.
• Process and track rabies control cases, including bite reports and quarantine requirements.
• Coordinate and schedule kennel inspections and maintain compliance documentation.
• Track citations, coordinate court-related follow-up, and assist with hearing preparation and scheduling.
• Provide timely case information to internal staff and partner departments; support investigations and administrative hearings.
• Assist with field operations as needed, including welfare checks and animal transport.
